Upcycled Etched Olive Oil Cruet

       

WHAT YOU NEED:

Old wine bottle (I used a small one)

Paint brush

Stencil

Glass Etching Cream (I used Armour, purchased from Michael’s with coupon)

Pour spout

Step 1. Drink your wine. If you haven’t already!

Step 2. Wash wine bottle well with soap and be sure to remove all of the sticky from the label. 

Step 3. Create your stencil or prepare purchased stencil. I made mine using my Cricut Machine.  I used The Calligraphy Collection Cartridge and used the Shadow font. To make stencil I use Contact Paper (the clear kind with a sticky back that you line your drawers with) you can pick up a roll at Target for about $5.00. WAY cheaper than purchasing Stencil paper for simple projects like this.

Step 4. Apply Stencil to your clean bottle. Be sure to smooth it down really well, so the etching cream won’t leak. A Popsicle stick works well to do this.

Step 5. Stir your Etching cream and apply a THICK layer of your cream. Follow the instruction on your Etching cream, but most are pretty simple. Leave on for 60 seconds and then wash off with water. Be warned, etching cream can burn your skin very quickly!

Step 6. Remove stencil, fill with your favorite Olive Oil and pop on a Pour Spout.  Enjoy.

This entire project cost me under $10. I already had an empty wine bottle, Stencil and paint brush. The only items I had to pick up were Glass Etching Cream and a Pour spout. The possibilities of Glass etching are endless! So many ideas floating around in my head, I will share more soon I'm sure!
